Become a Certified ATV Rider Safety Instructor

March 24, 2026

Submitted by Tawnie Larson

The Kansas ATV Rider Safety Program is growing and looking for passionate agents to help lead the way.

Kurt Werth, the agriculture and natural resources and 4-H agent in Gray County, has built a strong foundation with a dedicated team of certified trainers, and now we’re expanding that team so ATV safety education can reach every corner of the state.

There is an immediate need for instructors in the eastern portion of the state.

Agents interested in becoming a Certified ATV Rider Safety instructor are invited to join the next training session, taking place April 20–23 in Cimarron, Kansas.

The ATV Safety Institute provides this certification, and the training cost is fully covered. Agents
are responsible only for travel and lodging; meals will be covered by Gray County.

Once certified, you’ll collaborate with fellow trainers to bring high-quality ATV safety education to your local communities -- strengthening skills, building confidence and helping keep Kansas riders safe.

For more details, contact Kurt Werth, 620-855-3821, or kwerth@ksu.edu.
