Extension Veteran Friendly Training Opportunity

Travis Habhab, the new Executive Director of Military and Veterans Affairs at Kansas State University, is on a mission to make K-State the premier military- friendly university.
Habhab recently joined Tim Steffensmeier, Gregg Hadley, Erin Martinez and Sarah Maass to explore how K-State and K-State Extension can deepen its connections with the defense and veteran community. The conversation surfaced exciting possibilities, and we invite you to be a part of this work.
Start with this free training. The University of Florida Extension offers Extension Veteran-Friendly Training, a self-paced online course designed to help extension professionals better serve veterans in their communities. It covers military culture, common physical and mental health challenges, the VA system, and available resources for veterans and their families.
Completing the course signals veteran-friendly competency to those you serve.
We encourage you to:
- Take the training. Enroll in the UF Extension Veteran-Friendly Training here.
- Make a connection. Reach out to Travis Habhab if you're already doing work — or see opportunities — involving Ft. Riley, Ft. Leavenworth, McConnell AFB, or other military-connected organizations.
- Bring your ideas. How can K-State Extension advance the university's military-friendly mission? Share your thoughts with Travis Habhab (thabhab@ksu.edu) or Erin Martinez (erinmartinez@ksu.edu).
- Think local. Kansas is home to nearly 200,000 veterans. Be intentional about reaching and serving them through your extension work.
