Social Media Policy Updates

June 9, 2026

Submitted by Kirsten Conard

With extension’s elevation to the university level, one of the areas the communications solutions unit is revisiting is ensuring that our social media accounts follow the university’s best practices and guidelines.

All social media pages should make the following updates by July 1, 2026:

  • Name change: The title of your page should follow the template “K-State Extension - XXX County” or “K-State Extension - XXX District."

  • The username/URL may not include KSRE and must be identifiable to K-State Extension and your county or district. It is permissible to use KSE. Some acceptable examples include:
    • ksedouglas
    • harveyco_kse

  • Your profile picture should clearly show your new K-State Extension wordmark. This could be white against a purple background, or vice versa.

  • If your cover photo includes an old wordmark, it should be replaced.

  • Follow brand guidelines when creating a cover photo that includes both your KSE wordmark and the 4-H clover. You may not create a brand-new co-branded logo that includes both.

If you have any questions, please contact Kirsten Conard at kconard@ksu.edu.

How to Change Your Name on Facebook:
1. Log into Facebook
2. Click on your profile picture in the top right
3. Click Settings & Privacy
4. Click Settings
5. Click Page Set-Up
6. Click Name
7. Update the name using the template K-State Extension - xxx County or K-State Extension - xxx District
8. Double-check spelling as you will not be able to update again for 60 days
9. If your username contains KSRE or Research, update that as well

If this does not work, ensure you have the correct level of page access. To do this:
1. Start at your profile
2. Click Professional Dashboard
3. Click All Tools
4. Click Page Access
5. If your access level does not include page deletion, you do not have full permissions. Someone else with these permissions will have to make the name change, or grant you access. This page will list the user(s) who has full access.
