Calling K-State Extension Supporters

Submitted by Gregg Hadley

At our Aug. 3 Extension Update, I unveiled K-State Extension’s new advocacy plan that will be launched in November. I believe that this program will greatly enhance our communication with our local officials. Erin Martinez, the interim associate director for extension programs, did a wonderful job of summarizing this plan in last week’s Tuesday Letter.

You can help prepare for this plan’s implementation by thinking about the people, communities and organizations you and your local unit or department serve.

Next, determine who in that group of extension supporters has been the most positively impacted by K-State Extension’s programs, and is truly appreciative of our efforts. Then, determine whether any of them would be willing to speak about how K-State Extension has positively impacted their life.

Why should you do this activity?

One way for our elected officials to learn about K-State Extension’s positive impact for Kansans is for us to inform them, and we will do that. Nevertheless, an even better way to educate our elected officials about K-State Extension’s positive impact is to hear it from those who have really benefitted from our programming.

This new advocacy plan will rely heavily on showcasing the stakeholders who have benefited from our great programs.

So, jot down some names of those stakeholders you think would be excellent at representing and advocating for our great work. We will be asking you in the near future to help us connect with these great K-State Extension supporters.
