Hunger Free Kansas Mini-Grant Webinar Recording Available

March 10, 2026

Last year, 20 K-State Extension units (listed here) were selected to receive Hunger Free Kansas mini-grants with funding support from the Kansas Health Foundation. The purpose of these mini-grants was to support innovative approaches leveraging extension agents to drive meaningful change in food security and anti-hunger initiatives.

This funding was an amazing opportunity to catalyze our network of agents and changemakers in pursuit of a common goal to eradicate hunger in Kansas.

Project work was completed from March 2025 to December 2025. The projects varied but some of the common themes included:

  • Using a Community Health Worker at a food pantry.
  • Training volunteers to assist residents in enrolling in SNAP.
  • Supporting food pantry infrastructure upgrades.
  • Leveraging existing programs like community and school gardens and Kitchen ReStore projects in new ways.
  • Partnerships with K-12 schools.

In addition to promoting food security, a key goal of this mini-grant program was to enhance
collaboration with university and community partners. In total, 102 new organizational partnerships were created and 116 existing organizational partnerships were strengthened through these mini-grant projects.

A webinar was held on Feb. 19 during which each of the mini-grant recipients shared success stories and learnings from their projects. If you missed it, the webinar recording is now available online here. Check it out to hear their key takeaways that can be applied in your own work in communities across the state of Kansas!
